BG-GB MPG Challenge winner demonstrates MPG saving is no pipe dream

November 28, 2017

At a presentation at Baschurch Garage Shrewsbury, motorist Andy Slater was announced by BG Products as the winner of its 2017 MPG Challenge. The competition was set up to find the top fuel saving motorists using the company’s best-in-class fuel and oil treatments to maximise their engine’s efficiency and improve fuel economy. All the successful MPG improvement entries, say BG, prove their products’ effectiveness. And motorists who aren’t utilising this practical cleaning chemistry are missing out on the opportunity to clean up their polluting vehicles and save money on their fuel bills.

Challenging motorists not to accept ever-decreasing MPG from their vehicle, BG Products, at the start of the summer, launched their MPG Challenge. It encouraged motorists to see just how much fuel they could save after a single use of BG’s fuel and oil treatments. Their ongoing testing, say BG, is continuing to reinforce previous data confirming that fuel savings of 4-7% can be achieved. As an extra incentive, the MPG Challenge’s reward for the top saver, the driver achieving the highest MPG improvement, was a brand new 4K Ultra HD Smart TV.

MPG stabilised at 39 MPG, much higher than the pre-test figure

Obviously delighted Seat Leon owner, Andy Slater from Shrewsbury, was the overall winner, recording his MPG improvement at over 20 MPG at one stage following treatment. Andy was presented with his Smart TV prize at the service centre where he had his Seat Ibiza treated with BG Products, Baschurch Garage. At 79,650 miles he recorded 23.9 MPG. 900 miles or so later, at 80,555 miles, it had risen to 43.9 MPG. It has since stabilised at a still impressive 39 MPG, much higher than the pre-test figure.

The BG MPG Service comprises one product to clean the engine’s fuel system and a second to flush the crankcase, piston area and oil passages. The BG Products fuel system cleaner maintains vital injector spray function, keep O2 sensors clean and helps to clean catalytic convertors, whilst the EPR Engine Flush scrubs the combustion chamber and cleans the compression rings. The combined effect restores power and economy and reduces the workload of emission control devices too.

Most cost-effective way of keeping an engine clean

BG say they’re confident their MPG Service is the most efficient and cost-effective way of keeping an engine clean and fuel costs down. Relying on regular standard servicing alone isn’t enough, say BG, as it doesn’t attempt to clean the inside of an engine. Alternatively, regular buying of premium fuel (to utilise the small percentage of equivalent cleaning additive it contains), BG argues, just isn’t cost-effective – it can boost fuel costs by £150+ over the course of a year.

Andy Cotton, Director of Powerflow Ltd, Distributor of BG Products within Great Britain, said: “Congratulations to Andy. All the MPG improvement entries prove BG’s effectiveness in restoring engine performance and improving fuel economy. And motorists who aren’t utilising this practical cleaning chemistry are missing out – It’s costing them money and increasing pollution in our towns and cities.”

BG Products state their commitment to maintaining the operational systems of today's and tomorrow's vehicles. The Company seeks prolonged trouble-free automotive performance for every BG customer and dedicates its ongoing testing and refinement of current products to better understand how the ravages of time and use deplete the vital fluid systems of a vehicle.

Mr Cotton added: “BG continue to deliver an easy, very cost-effective solution featuring industry-leading products. Plus, it can be simply done at the same time that a car is serviced normally. Motorists get back that new-car feeling with their MPG restored and reduced emissions benefit everyone.”
